What is a City Center?

Many regions and chapters are only now coming to understand the concept of City Centers and their relationship with the Chapter.

Essentially, the Chapter Board acts as an umbrella administrative group, while the City Center functions as an event-planning group. The Chapter is not attached to any one city in the Chapter area and must consist of board members from all over the Chapter area. The Chapter board may meet as often as is convenient (2 to 12 times a year), often in location rotation with additional conference calls as needed.
City Centers are groups of members in a particular city who organize and deliver programs of interest to the local membership as frequently or infrequently as they wish. In areas where there are educational institutions, IIDA Campus Centers can be formed to deliver programs that are geared towards students. Any chapter member may attend any program offered by and City Center or Campus Center.
A City Center's governance structure and operation is subject to the by-laws, policies and procedures as approved by the Chapter.

A City Center, Is Membership...Is Students...Is Programs...Is focused on the local members' needs, while still making its activities available to the Chapter...Reports to the Chapter Board. A City Center should cater to its design professional's needs in that city of the Chapter. City Centers operate with committees, not boards. City Centers fund raise for its own events and return profits to the Chapter.
